Nathan Gwilliam

Adoption Media, CEO & Co-Founder

While serving as a missionary in Brazil, Nathan fell in love with the many under-privileged children of that country, and vowed he would do something to make a lasting difference in their lives. When he returned to college in 1995, Nathan knew almost nothing about the Internet, which had reached mainstream while he was out of the country. One semester, during the first week of classes, Nathan took a message for one of his roommates in which the caller recommended an HTML class. Neither the caller nor the roommate took the class, but Nathan immediately signed up, immersed himself in the Internet, and discovered his opportunity to make a unique difference in helping orphans.

As part of an honors thesis, Nathan wrote a business plan about using the Internet to help children through adoption. One day, as he was doing research for this paper, he visited Adoption.com, and without much thought sent an email asking if the current owner would consider selling the domain name. In October 1996, Nathan's father, Dale Gwilliam, invested the money to purchase the Adoption.com domain name. Nathan began development of the website in the BYU Marriott School computer lab, with the help of other students, and the first version of their Adoption.com website was launched in February 1997.

Adoption.com is now one of the web properties operated by Adoption Media, LLC, of which Nathan Gwilliam is the CEO. Other Adoption Media websites include Adopting.org, Adoption.org, AdoptionBlogs.com, FosterParenting.com, etc. These websites receive about 1 million visits per month, making Adoption Media the largest adoption organization in the world, measured by number of people using its' services monthly.

Nathan is most passionate about the Adoption.com Photolisting (http://photolisting.adoption.com), which is the heart and soul of Adoption.com, and helps thousands of U.S. foster children and international orphans to find loving, permanent families. Nathan feels very privileged to have been part of the Bears for Brazil project where hundreds of Teddy Bears were donated to Brazilian orphans, and the Orphan Christmas Fund, through which food, clothing, vaccinations and other supplies were donated to orphans in India.

Nathan is eternally grateful for his wife, his father and the tremendous number of brilliant and dedicated team members who have helped to make Adoption Media what it is today.
